🎨 🎶🗓️ New Painting + Playlist + Upcoming Gigs
Plus, threads on navigating grief, discovery, and righteousness. Major updates soon!
"There never was a career in my case, only a succession of things that needed to be done."
– Barbara Ehrenreich
I hope this mailing finds you peaceful, knowing what a giant ask that is right now. The grief is thick this year. One of my oldest friends and greatest inspirations left mere days before an overdue reunion. My friend groups have disintegrated. Everywhere I look it’s like "the centre cannot hold.” And yet I know that I am lucky and my family is sheltered from the worst of it. I hope the same for you.
Processing it publicly has helped. Perhaps this epic thread on how to navigate the pummeling hardship will help you as well. And here’s another good one.
This is old (2018) but it feels more relevant now than it did when I recorded it:
Seriously, don’t give up. (And steal a few cheap laughs with this here meme dump.)
Patrons: In the next few weeks, I’ll send you private streaming links to both my latest, unreleased studio album (which I started writing in 2002!) AND the videos of my talks from the online media/philosophy course I just taught at Nura Learning.
I have a lot of other secret projects in the works to sing about here soon. For now:
🎨 New Microraptor Painting
Info on my latest ecstatic rendering of an awesome prehistoric beast right here. If for whatever reason you don’t like to click on links, just know this little weirdo was essentially a flying squirrel made of dinosaur, over a hundred million years before the flying squirrel. God, I love the ancient biosphere and its humbling revelations….
🎶 New Crowd-Sourced Playlist
Here’s a fun (and VERY LONG, more than seven-hour) playlist of “favorite songs” my Facebook friends suggested. It’s a paragon of eclectic listening! Enjoy:
🗓️ Upcoming Gigs
Join me as I temporarily emerge from a vortex of overwhelming domestic responsibility! I will be making lots of art in public over the next couple weeks.
Opening this talent-packed variety show with a short talk in a tasty listening room:
Playing multiple morning electronic guitar sets, collaborating on live paintings, and hosting dialogues with visionary film-maker Ken Adams in a gorgeous pecan grove:
Playing my first full-band show since 2015 (!) and painting live at this harm reduction benefit in one of Santa Fe’s best venues, and alongside some extraordinary live acts:
For more, if more is what you seek, here is some info on the rest of this year’s Future Fossils episodes, and timely social threads I started on discovery and righteousness.
That’s all for now. Thank you for your support!
“What a ridiculous thing to spoil a voyage through space by weeping.”
– Anaïs Nin
